The Upper Blackfoot River is a former private ranch; converted to a wildlife management area after being purchased by the Conservation Fund in 1994.

The Upper Portneuf River located just north of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, is a former blue-ribbon stream whose ecology was largely ruined by a mistaken release from the upstream Chesterfield reservoir dam in 1987.
